Shalom Brethren! Last Sunday our topic was: Setting our hearts to seek the Lord 2 Chronicles 20:1-30, Matt. 13:44-50. We seek the Lord NOT because He is lost BUT rather we are lost from him as a result of the fall of man. [Sin separated man from God]. We ought to seek the Lord while He might be found and call on Him while He is near. The Lord requires us to forsake the wicked ways, and turn to Him or else our fasting and prayer will be in vain .
The Lord is more interested in our hearts as we seek Him. Scriptures teach us that Fasting is not a command or a must but rather an expectation from the Lord. Prayer and Fasting is an act of faith knowing that our Lord is able to respond to our needs when we seek him with a
sincere heart.
The following are some of the lessons from King Jehoshaphat who chose to seek God;
• We should understand that we are always at war with the enemy and unless we realize our need for God, we may be helpless. Jesus Christ was tempted by the devil in three areas of which we Christians also face such as the flesh, the lust of the eyes and power/ fame but overcame with Scripture. We too face various battles every moment in our lives.
• We should learn to acknowledge the sovereignty of God, even in the toughest situation and choose to turn to Him. As believers, we should use our God given authority not to be terrified by tough circumstances but rather rise up and give people hope, be it in family, work place, business, cell, Church and all spheres of life for divine help.
• We should learn to admit that we need God’s help but also remember the battles he has enabled us to overcome in the past situations.
• Whenever we surrender our battles to God, we learn that the battles aren’t ours but His. As Christians, we should choose to turn to the Lord and handover our battles to Him.
• God will give you a strategy to overcome your battles. When faced with a tough situation, God is able to give you discernment on a certain course of action to undertake because of your personal relationship and fellowship with Him.
• The lord will give you courage to face your battles as you seek and turn to him, he will also give you victory and enable you to overcome your enemies. We only need to realize our need for Him, our obedience and Set our hearts to seek the Lord.
