Text: Judges 14:1-4
When Samson was in the town of Timnah, he saw a certain woman of the Philistines (Israel’s enemy), and he wanted her for his wife. His parents were not happy about it, because she was not from God’s people. But Samson said, “she is right in my eyes” (vv.3,7). Even though God was in control of all of this (v.4), one of the sad maxims of the Book of Judges is that, “Everyone did what was right in his own eyes” (17:6; 21:25). Israel was in chaos. God’s law was not their concern.

When our great Judge, Jesus, came into our existence, His main purpose was to do the will of His Father. Jesus said, “My food is to do the will of him who sent me …” (John 4:34). Though we are not deliverers, it should still be our greatest desire to do the will of our Heavenly Father (Gen.6:5-6; Matt.22:37). Pray that God will give you the desire and the ability to do that.
Meditate on verse 4. What is God teaching you in this verse?

Heavenly Father, in the name of Jesus Christ, I pray for understanding of Your ways; help me to follow them even when they seem not to make sense to me. Amen.
