Text: Judges 1:27-36
It is stated or implied eight times, in to-day’s passage, that a tribe of Israel did not drive out the enemy completely. They may have been enslaved, but God had originally commanded that the enemies be destroyed (Num.33:52). As a result, God was displeased, and the remaining enemies and their religions and idolatry would always be stumbling block for Israel
(2:1-3).
We who belong to God’s grace are faced with the same command. For our own good, we must remove from our lives things that displease God and harm our souls – you know what they are in your life! But you also know how much you still love the ways of the world and you continue to sin. So, for you, Jesus lived a life of perfect obedience to God’s commands, and He destroyed the enemies, including death. God has joined you to Christ; so live in your calling. Do not let sinful things enter your life. They can destroy you. Pray for the desire and strength to stay close to Jesus, all your days.
Meditate on verse 28. What is God teaching you in this verse?
Loving Father, in the name of Jesus Christ, help me obey the Holy Spirit, moment by moment, all the days of my life. Amen.
