Text: Genesis 2:1-25.
After creating all things in the space of six days, God rested on the seventh.
This sounds like God was tired, as we get tired after a day’s labour. But God continues to work in sustaining and governing all His creation. This rest for God is a completion, examination, judgment, and satisfaction in what He accomplished. That same rest, eternally, was to be the destiny of human beings. But Adam sinned, so entering that rest became impossible for humanity. But Jesus, God the eternal Son, came and did what Adam failed to do. When Jesus finished His work of redemption, He returned to the throne of heaven, He entered that rest of Gen.2, and He sat down on the throne.
Now, all we who are united to Christ have also entered that rest. Please read Hebrews 4 for insights into this eternal rest.
Meditate on verses 1-3. How are you going to apply these verses to your life and family?
My heavenly Father, thank You for giving us a day of rest, Sunday. Thank You for the gift of Your Son, Jesus Christ, for in Him we have eternal
rest. In the name of Jesus Christ I pray. Amen.
