Text: Jōb 15:1-35

The second wave of speeches begins with Eliphaz. He accuses Jōb of speaking worthless words, which were ungodly and lead others away from God. Eliphaz’s insulting words are because he thinks Jōb is prideful, as if Jōb is the one with all wisdom. Then beginning in v.20, Eliphaz speaks about the expectations of “the wicked man”, those who stand against God (v.25). Of course, Eliphaz is thinking that Jōb is that wicked man.

The description of wicked people is a good one. Standing against God proves their wickedness. Even though such a person might appear to thrive, in the end, they will be ruined, condemned. Wickedness is actually the nature of every human being, each one of us. As we view it, some people seem better than others, but we all are rebellious, and we all stand condemned. God is just, and He will condemn sinners. But God is also gracious and merciful and loving. God the Father sent His eternal Son, Jesus Christ (the only one who was righteous by nature), to serve as Saviour. Trust the Lord and not yourself, and live in grateful obedience to Him. One day you will be received into God’s eternal blessed fellowship.

Meditate on verse 20. What is God teaching you in this verse?

Father, in the name of Jesus Christ, take away the pain of wickedness from me. Lead me always into Your righteous ways. Amen.
