Priests laying hands on the newly priested deacon

The Diocese of Kampala ordained and priested 12 clergy on Sunday, December 2, 2018 at All Saints’ Cathedral Kampala. The ceremony was presided over by the Archbishop of the Province of the Church of Uganda, His Grace Staley Ntagali and the Assistant Bishop of Diocese of Kampala, Rt. Rev. Dr. Hannington Mutebi.

While preaching to the thousands of congregants who witnessed the ordination and priesting of new clergy, the Emeritus Bishop of the Diocese of Lango, Rt. Rev. Capt. Charles Odurkami, challenged the clerics to welcome and support every person rather  than frustrating the work of the one who called them. “We have people in church who don’t want to nurture others. That is evil,” said Bishop Odurkami.

“You are not called alone; this is not your ministry and you are not going to finish it. Jesus started it, left it to the Apostles and here were are passing it onto others.” Bishop Odurkami reminded clerics to always prepare for transition like Jesus Christ did when He gave the disciples a mission to accomplish. He reminded them that theirs is a lifetime calling – both in active service or retirement – because they have been called to remain servants of God.

While administering the Canonical and Oath of Allegiance, Archbishop Ntagali said the candidates were of sound mind, and called upon anyone with an impediment to their ordination to step forward or forever hold their peace. Ntagali implored them to always pray and fast for the Holy Spirit to fill them.

The ordained deacons were Lovincer Katana, Liberty Muhereza, David Asiimwe, Gad Mugisa, Jackson Asiku, and Paska Onena while the priests include Alex Kamoga, Betty Mwandha, Charles Obira, Simon Welishe, Beatrice Kasule Nalubega and Emphraim Byamukama. All were given a Bible and a copy of the Constitution of the Church of Uganda.
