Text: Nahum 3:1-19

Assyrians were manipulative; they used beauty, prestige and power to entice other nations (v.4), giving them false friendship, and once those nations lowered their guard, the Assyrians would strike and plunder them. That is how Assyria accumulated great wealth. No nation wished to be ruled by Assyria but because of its wealth, power and prestige, some would be lured into an alliance which in the end proved worthless. The lust for power and prestige eventually destroyed the mighty Assyrian Empire (v.19). Someone said that “if you want to know someone’s character, give him power”. The trouble we are in today is because of some individuals who have power, others who want power, and some who want to maintain their power. Let Jesus Christ be your power for He has never lost a battle and He will never lose one. Rest in Him alone and you will be secured.

Meditate on verse 5. How does God become your enemy? How can you reverse that enmity?

Father, in the name of Jesus Christ, thank You that You are not my enemy. Amen.
