Text: Luke 14:1-24
Jesus Christ had healed several people on Sabbath; the healing of Simon Peter’s mother in-law (4:38); healing of a man with a withered hand (6:6); healing of a woman bent over for eighteen years (13:14); healing of a man
who had dropsy (14:2). In fact Luke shows Jesus healing more on Sabbath than any other gospels. To this, the Pharisees developed hatred towards Jesus Christ for healing on Sabbath, meaning He was working on Sabbath.

So, on this occasion a Pharisee invited Jesus for a meal with a sinister motive to trap Him, they arranged for a man with dropsy to sit in front of Jesus Christ (v. 2). Otherwise, under normal circumstances no body would invite such a man with running body fluids among guests. The arrangement was to get Jesus to heal this man so he would be promptly arrested. Surprisingly Jesus was not afraid of the Pharisees and their traps. He healed the man showing that it is lawful to practice acts of mercy on Sabbath.

Meditate on verse 4. How are you going to apply it to your life?
Heavenly Father, in the name of Jesus Christ, help me to have compassion
over the poor; both spiritually and materially in my society. Amen.
