Text: Luke 13:1-35.
Jesus told his listeners that unless they repent they too would perish. What is repentance? Repentance is turning from sin and coming to Jesus for salvation. In repentance a sinner feels sorrow, which is prompted by the Holy Spirit over his sin. Repentance will occur only when this is genuine sorrow over one’s sins. It is the change of mind and heart.
Repentance is the heart of salvation, and it is a proof that one is saved because it shows that the Holy Spirit is active in this life. You receive the Holy Spirit at the point when you receive Jesus Christ by faith. Unfortunately most speakers or “preachers” do not emphasise repentance today. They promote wealth and health, and end up living lives that grieve the Holy Spirit.
Meditate on verse 5. How are you going to apply it to your life?
Father in the name of Jesus Christ, I pray that preachers will emphasize repentance and forgiveness in their sermons. Amen.
