Text: 2 Chronicles 4:1-22
When a person enters the temple the first piece of “furniture” is the altar
(v1). The animal which will be sacrificed on the altar is slaughtered (instead of the person), the blood is drained, and then the animal is burned on the altar.
Symbolically, the animal died to pay the sin-penalty of the person. The person can now be accepted by God. It is only a symbol of God’s saving grace, but the person who trusts in the promises behind the symbol will actually receive the reality of God’s grace.
The animal on the altar is a picture of the Lamb of God, Jesus Christ, on the cross.
The sins of God’s people were put on Jesus, and then Jesus was punished, He
paid our sin-penalty, and God’s just wrath against us was completely satisfied.
We can now go to be with God forever. Please, trust that Jesus did this for you, and you can have peace with God. Then, with a grateful, loving heart, live obediently to God, your Heavenly Father.
Meditate on verse 1. What is God teaching you in this verse?
Heavenly Father, in the name of Jesus Christ, thank You for the blood of Jesus Christ that was shed for my forgiveness. Thank You for forgiving my sins. Amen.
