Text: Nahum 1:1-15

One may not feel comfortable associating God with jealousy and vengeance (v.2). But God’s jealousy and vengeance is different from that of man, for man there are situations of selfishness and for God there is no such mix of jealousy and vengeance with selfishness. God is just in purpose, punishing unrepentant evil doers. God’s jealous and vengeance is to remove sin and restore harmony in the world (Deut. 4:24; 5:9). God demands undivided loyalty, He cannot share holiness with anyone else. No one can understand His fierce anger (v. 3).

Nahum comforts Judah that her enemies would be destroyed never to rise again (vv. 12-15). Our God is a jealous God, so serve and worship Him alone. Trust in Him alone and He has promised to defeat your enemies. First receive and believe in His Son, Jesus Christ, our Saviour and Lord.

Meditate on verses 12-13. What is God telling you in these verses?

Father, in the name of Jesus Christ, break the yoke of poverty and diseases from us. Heal and protect us. Amen.
