Text: Job 19:1-29

For the purpose of argument Jōb allows for the possibility that he has sinned (v.4). But he answers by saying that it has only affected himself. God has attacked Jōb with great force, but Jōb is only in a small tent (v.12). Everyone now despises him. So, he begs his friends to show him compassion. But regardless of the response of friends or anyone, God has revealed to Jōb that there will be a Redeemer, someone who will purchase Jōb for eternal life. Therefore, Jōb knows that he will see God one day.

The Redeemer is Jesus Christ. Redemption is when a price is paid to release something from captivity. We all are bound by sin, held captive, and we are not able to escape by our own power. Jesus came into our world and lived the pure life that God demanded. He then went to the cross, took upon Himself the sin of His people, and paid the death penalty that God demanded. That is how we were redeemed. Jesus paid the price to release us from condemnation. And some great day to come, we will be raised, and we will see the Lord. Thanks be to God for His grace in Christ!

Meditate on verse 25. What is God teaching you in this verse?

Heavenly Father, in the name of Jesus Christ, despite the suffering I have gone through, I still trust You for I know my Redeemer lives. Amen.
