Text: Genesis 10:-1-32.
In this chapter, we are introduced to the genealogy of Shem (for the importance of genealogies, refer to the meditation at Gen.5). The list of
Shem’s descendants (Semites) will continue in Gen.11:10. Looking back at Gen. 9:26-27 we read that Noah blessed Shem above his brothers and their descendants (which is every other human being on earth!). Eventually this genealogy will bring us to Abraham, Isaac, and Jacob, when God’s covenant will be focused more clearly. The promises especially look forward to Jesus Christ, who will be supreme over all humanity, and in whom we can have safe eternal dwelling.
Meditate on verses 21-31. What are you learning from these verses?
Father, I pray that my family will never be scattered but will be united in Your Son, Jesus Christ, my Saviour and Lord. I pray that Your Church will not be scattered but will remain one. In the name of Jesus Christ I pray. Amen.
