Text: Proverbs 23:1-25.
“Listen to your father who gave you life, and do not despise your mother when she is old”, verse 22 (ESV). Whole biological parents are the primary focus in this commandment, so are parents by adoption. Parenting is an awesome responsibility and doing it in a godly way is even harder. In conventional wisdom, it is taught that the god of a child is its father and mother. While this should be interpreted in its figure form, it nevertheless underscores a central message about the place of parents in the life of an off spring. We must listen to our parents and hold them in high regard even when they are old. Be available for them and supportive of them.

Reflection on verse 22, what is God teaching you in this verse? How are you going to apply it to your life?

Father, thank You for the gifts of parents. Teach the children how to be zealous in helping their parents especially in their (parents) old age. In the name of Jesus I pray, Amen.
