Text: Genesis 28:1-22.
Esau is angry with Jacob and wants to kill him. So, Isaac sends Jacob to Rebekah’s brother, Laban, to stay there. While on his way, Jacob spends the night near Haran, where Yahweh visits him in a dream, a prophetic vision. Jacob saw a staircase, angels walking up and down the stairs. At the top was Yahweh, and He spoke to Jacob. Even though Jacob is fleeing the covenanted land, the promises given to Abraham and Isaac are given to Jacob. Jacob is the inheritor of the blessings.

Jesus refers to this passage (John 1:51). Jesus tell His newly formed disciples that they will see heaven opened, and the angels of God ascending and descending on the Son of Man (Jesus). Jesus meant that He himself is the bearer of Yahweh’s message, He is the way to Yahweh, and the covenant blessings are found in Christ. Trust Jesus as your Saviour, and you will enter eternal life with God.

Meditate on verse 15. What promises is God giving you in this verse?

Father, I pray that you bless children and make them faithful to the glory of your name. In the name of Jesus Christ I pray. Amen.
