Text: Ephesians 6:1-4.
Scripture calls upon children to obey their parents, to honour them, and to submit to their authority. For children who are a few years away from adulthood, this command might seem “childish”, but interestingly, in Romans 1:28-31, in the midst of a long list of horrible sins, the apostle Paul includes, “disobedient to parents” (Rom.1:30). This might seem like a small thing, but it’s extremely serious. Paul says that such people are worthy of death (Rom.1:32). Parents, raising your children has eternal consequences, so take your “call” seriously. Children, obey your parents! Have you been occasionally disobedient to your parents? Ask your Heavenly Father to forgive you – He will. Ask for His grace to give you the strength you need to obey. Remember, the way you treat your parents reflects on your heart toward God!

Reflect on verse 1, what new insights is God teaching you in this verse?
How are you going to encourage your people to apply it to their lives, including yourself?

Father, in the name of Jesus Christ, I pray for love and harmony between children and their parents. I pray for parents who lack care, provide and give them hope in Jesus Christ’s name. Amen.
