Text: Exodus 20:1-17; Deuteronomy 5:16.
To honour a person, you give them respect, treat them as better than yourself, and give obedience, when appropriate.

Children are to have this kind of attitude toward their parents at all times, not only when parents are watching, but especially when parents are not in sight. God is always present, always watching, and He promises special blessings to His people when they treat their parents well. Children, the way you treat your parents reflects your attitude toward God!

Remember also, obedience to the commands of God cannot give you salvation. Obedience is the result of, the fruit of, the proof of, salvation.

Reflect on verse 12, what promise is attached to this law? In case you have parents, how are you relating and ministering to them? What is God teaching you in this verse?

Father, in the name of Jesus Christ, I pray for children to love and support their parents. I pray for parents whose children have neglected them that they will be comforted and provided for. Amen.
