Text: Genesis 2:5-17.
‘And the LORD God commanded the man, saying, “you may surely eat of every tree of the garden, but of the tree of knowledge of good and evil you shall not eat, for in the day that you eat of it you shall surely die” (verses 16-17). The authority from God’s Word gave man the
liberty to obey God’s command and live for ever, or disobey and die.

The man, Adam chose to disobey and death ensued. One may argue that Adam and Eve never died physically immediately, however, there was immediate spiritual separation between man and God, the spiritual death, the immediate consequence of Sin.

Reflect on verse 16 and 17, what appetites and delights are you struggling with? How readily do you obey God’s Word, the Bible? Remember the penalty of disobedience is death.

Father, forgive me for not following Your ways as I should. Give me the ability to stand firm and free me from the devil. In the name
of Jesus Christ I pray, Amen.
